The annual and competitive Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) will be organised
by Himal Association from 8 – 12 December 2011. By screening some of the most recent and exciting
films about mountain people, sports, environment, cultures and societies from various corners of the
world KIMFF seeks to celebrate the complexity and diversity of mountain life.

HD VIDEO vs. 35mm FILM

Aspiring filmmakers are quite lucky compared to years ago. Today, you can make a movie in just about any format and still be taken seriously, assuming that you have a great story and reasonably good production values. As mentioned, The Blair Witch Project is one of the most successful independent features ever made, yet it was shot with a consumer video camera (non-digital).
Prior to the digital revolution of the 1990s, things were a lot different. If the movie was shot on a format other than 35mm, it did not stand a chance of being distributed. 16mm was not taken seriously and video was a joke. These standards were so ingrained in the industry, that even actors were reluctant to work on non-35mm shoots.

सन २००२ तिरको कुरा हो, प्रणय लिम्बु र रुद्र गुरुङ्ग आभासमा आफ्नो पहिलो वृत्तचित्र The Crime and Correction शीर्षकको डकुमेन्ट्री लिएर आउनुभएको थियो, हामी Television production and Direction का प्रशिक्षार्थीहरु माझ । उर्लाबारी हत्या र त्यसको छानबिनसँग सम्बन्धित् त्यस डकुमेन्ट्रीमा crime त थियो तर correction थिएन । तर प्रणय लिम्बुको ब्यक्तित्व र प्रभावशाली वाकशैलीलाई मैले प्रशंसा गरेको थिएँ, डकुमेन्ट्री सम्बन्धि राय बुझ्ने क्रममा सबैले आलोचना गरे पनि मैले सह्राएको थिएँ ।

केही वर्ष पछि जब मैले संचार माध्यम मार्फत् प्रणय लिम्बुले कुबेर अंकलको बारेमा डकुमेन्ट्री बनाएको सुनें, खुशी लाग्यो ,विस्मात पनि लाग्यो । कुबेर राईलाई मैले पनि आफ्नो डकुमेन्ट्रीको पात्र कल्पना गरेको थिएँ,वहाँलाई म व्यक्तिगत रुपले धेरै चिन्दथें । डकुमेन्ट्री हेर्न ज्यादै उत्सुक थिएँ तर हेर्न भने पाएको थिइनँ । धेरै पछि you tube मा हेर्न पाएँ, खुशी लाग्यो । खबर सुने देखि नै प्रणय दाइलाई बधाइ र धन्यवाद दिऊँला भनेको,साइत जुरेको छैन । थोरै कमीको बावजूद डकुमेन्ट्री धेरै राम्रो लाग्यो । प्रणय र टिमको उत्तरोत्तर सफलताको कामना गर्दछु ।

गोरे गुरुङ्ग, नजानिंदो गरी अत्यन्तै लोकप्रिय नाम हो । नेपालका मूलप्रवाहका संचार माध्यममा उनको चर्चा छैन तर उनको आफ्नै दर्शक छन्, यो भने निर्विवाद छ । मैले उनको यौटा भिडियो फिल्म हेरेको थिएँ । पोखराको ब्लु आइ स्टुडियोमा मैले वहाँलाई The Honey Hunter को सम्पादनको तल्लीन अवस्थामा भेटेको थिएँ, अति सरल र सहज ब्यक्ति । म युग गुरुङ्गजीलाई भेट्न गएको थिएँ , युगजी पनि मजाको मान्छे हुनुहुन्छ, वहाँले गोरे दाइसँग परिचय गराउँदै यस डकुमेनट्रीका केही दृश्यहरु देखाउँदै क्यामेरा कलाको प्रशंसा गर्नुभएको थियो ।

मैले सन् २००४-५ तिर डकुमेन्ट्रीको लागि यौटा विषय वस्तु बन्न सक्ने संभावना भनेर "अन्तर्जातिय विवाह र दलित सन्दर्भ" शीर्षकमा प्रस्तावना दलित एन जी ओ फेडेरेसन, कास्कीका संयोजक डि बि नेपाली जीलाई बुझाएँ । वहाँलाई अवधारणा मन पर्यो केन्द्रमा कुरा राख्छु भन्नु भयो, त्यो भन्दा पहिले हाम्रो कुनै चिनजान र संपर्क नरहेकोले मैले उति विधि आश पनि गरिनँ । तर लगभग एक वर्ष पछि एकदिन "डकुमेन्ट्रीको प्रस्ताव स्वीकृत भयो, आउनु होस् "भनेर वहाँले फोन गर्नु हुँदा असाध्यै खुशी लाग्यो । जिनेश यु के जाने धपेडीमा थियो, सुरजले थोरै बहुत साथ दिन्थ्यो, सबै काम एक्लै गरें तर फिल्डमा जान डि बि जी ले राम्रो साथ दिनु भयो । पछि पृथ्वीचोकको यौटा होटलको सभाकक्षमा यसको प्रदर्शनी र छलफल पनि भयो । त्यस अर्थमा सार्वजनिक प्रदर्शनी भएको मेरो पहिलो डकुमेन्ट्री भन्नुपर्छ यसलाई ।

exposure is controlled by

1. shutter speed
2. aperture

ISO=sensor sensitivity

100= more light reqd.

3200= less ligh reqd.


lesser ISO
rich colors
less noise

Higher ISO
dull colors
more noise

ISO should be <400


F stop

F stop is also used to differentiate ISO or shutter sppedd.
